Fireworks prohibited on the National Forest
by Bridger-Teton National Forest
July 3, 2017

WESTERN, WYOMING, July 3, 2017 – As the Fourth of July holiday approaches, visitors and local residents are reminded that fireworks are not permitted on the Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF).

"Just because we have had significant moisture this year, it doesn’t mean that one spark couldn’t cause an unwanted wildfire," said Public Affairs Officer Mary Cernicek. There are other areas in the west that are already battling significant fires and warming and drying trends are expected as the summer progresses," she said.

Fireworks are illegal on National Forest Lands. Possessing or using any kind of fireworks on the Forest is a $225 fine and a mandatory court appearance. Campfires should be completely extinguished and cold to the touch before leaving any site. Campers and day users should never leave a fire unattended. Prepare for the unexpected by having a water bucket and shovel on hand and ready for use. Citations will be given for unattended campfires and fines on the BTNF start at $225.

To report a fire or smoke call 307-739-3630. For more fire information, please visit www.tetonfires.com.
