Local Sublette County and Mixed Media artists are excited about reconnecting with others from all across Wyoming at the annual convention of the Wyoming Artists' Association. The event will be at the Headwaters Conference Center in Dubois on May 5th, 6th, and 7th, 2017.
Sharon Schell, painter and sculptor from Big Piney and WAA's 2017 president, has planned a "Mardi Gras" weekend chockful of activities. The convention kicks off Friday evening, May 5th, with a Quick Draw followed by an auction. Other activities include workshops, business luncheon, masquerade banquet and ball, presentation of the 2017 Grand Wyoming Artist award, and art exhibit. The exhibit includes categories in Oil, Acrylic, Watercolor, Graphics, Miniature, Congressional (selected paintings will be on display in Wyoming's Congressional offices in Washington, D. C., for a year), Governor's (artwork selected will be displayed in the Wyoming governor's office for a year), Theme ("Mardi Gras"), Pottery, Sculpture, and "Other". Susan Rose, Victor, ID, artist, will judge the show and cash awards will be presented. The convention closes at noon on Sunday, May 7th.
Convention goers have the opportunity to study with three prestigious artists who are conducting the workshops: Kay Stratman of Jackson, "P'o Mo" Painting or "Splash Ink"; Erin O'Connor of Jackson,"Taking Your Landscapes to the Next Level" (all mediums welcome); and Charles Dayton of Cokeville, oil, and focusing on "Painting the Horse". There may be opportunities to paint outdoors, weather permitting.
New members are most welcome and encouraged to attend.
