Barrasso statement on Secretarial Orders to expand access to public lands
by U.S. Senator John Barrasso
March 2, 2017

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today (Thursday, March 2, 2017), U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-WY), chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW), released the following statement on two secretarial orders, signed by Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke.

The first order advances conservation stewardship, improves game and habitat management, and increases outdoor recreation opportunities by directing bureaus and agencies to immediately identify areas where recreation and fishing can be expanded. The second order overturns the recent ban on lead ammunition and fish tackle used on Fish and Wildlife Service lands, waters, and facilities.

"On his first day in office, Secretary Zinke has taken important steps to increase access to public lands and protect the rights of Americans who enjoy hunting and fishing," said Barrasso. "Hunting, fishing, camping, and other outdoor activities, are not only popular leisure activities, they are important to our economy as well. Now more Americans can enjoy our nation’s natural wildlife and beauty."
