Free movies at the Pinedale Library on Saturday evenings
March 10, 2017

The Pinedale Library is offering some of 2016's most acclaimed films for free on Saturdays during the months of March and April as part of the Daphne Platts March Film Festival. Movie time is 7 pm. Here are this year's award-winning selections:

March 25th: Fences A moving drama about a working-class African-American father who tries to raise his family in the 1950s, while coming to terms with the events of his life. Directed by Denzel Washington and written by August Wilson, based on his Pulitzer Prize-winning play.

April 1st: Hacksaw Ridge A 2016 biographical war drama film about the World War II experiences of Desmond Doss, an American pacificist combat medic who was a Seventh-day Adventist Christian, refusing to carry or use a firearm or weapons of any kind.

April 8th: Lion A powerful "feel-good movie of the year" about the true-life story of Saroo Brierley, lost on the streets of Calcutta as a child, who reconnected with his Indian birth family through Google Earth. The NY Times says, "If you have ever been a child, raised a child, lost a child or met a child ... this movie will wreck you."

April 15th: Hidden Figures One of the year's most talked about films chronicling a team of African-American women mathematicians who served a vital role in NASA during the early years of the US space program.
