Obituary - Fred Alexander
November 27, 2016

Frederick Alexander was born March 7, 1933 near Cora, Wyoming to Earl "Tuff" and Iris Adney Alexander while they were living on the Alexander Ranch. Fred's family moved to Pinedale where Fred's father was a carpenter. In 1950, Fred received his high school diploma. Fred loved riding colts and rodeoed locally. He mostly rode saddle broncs, but he did ride bareback horses, too. After high school, Fred helped his dad with carpentry work and then went to driving truck. He drove for Johnson Trucking Company until the mid to late 1960s when he bought his own truck. He hauled many loads of cattle and hay for the ranchers in the area. Shirley Joan McWilliams married Fred on December 24, 1954 in Jackson, Wyoming. They had one daughter Kristie in 1957. Fred continued trucking for the local ranchers through 2010 when he sold his cattle trailer to Cody Roberts. He continued hauling hay for some ranchers, until 2014, with a pickup and flatbed trailer. 2014 was the last year he hauled hay for Freddie Botur, from the Bell place to the main place. Fred could make a pretty load of hay on a trailer, straight and even, and it would never slip. Fred received the Friend of Agriculture award from the Green River Valley Cattlemen's Association and Cowbelles in 1995. Fred Alexander passed away on November 23, 2016 in Pinedale, Wyoming.

Jeannie Withrow, a very good friend of Joan and Fred, along with Phil Selby were of great assistance to Fred in later years. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Earl "Tuff" Alexander in 1992 and Iris Adney Alexander in 1990, wife Joan McWilliams Alexander in 2002, daughter Kristie Slater in 2005, and sister Carmen Merkle in 2006. He is survived by his sister Lois DeBolt of Arcadia, Florida, along with her husband Ron DeBolt and her two sons, Dan Taylor of Midland, Michigan and Sam Taylor of High Point, North Carolina and Kim Fernandez a niece. A gathering of remembrance will take place at the Daniel School House on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at noon. It will be a potluck with the meat provided and everyone can bring a side dish along with your memories and stories.
