Deer Ridge Fire burning near Cliff Creek Fire

Bondurant, Wyoming, July 17, 2016 – The Deer Ridge fire has been located near Bondurant, Wyoming, on the Bridger-Teton National Forest. This fire is 5.6 miles north of the Cliff Creek Fire. The cause of this fire is presumed to be lightning.

The Deer Ridge fire is burning in a pocket of mixed conifer trees, surrounded by open meadows and a few strings of continuous trees running along the hillside. The fire is presently smoldering and creeping along the ground and is approximately 20 acres in size.

The fire danger for the Bridger-Teton National Forest is 'High' which means fires can start easily and spread quickly.

Wildfires get their name mostly from local landmarks. In general, naming rights go to the group that makes the "initial attack" on a fire, whether it's a squadron of local firefighters or a team from the U.S. Forest Service. In this Instance, the Interagency Helicopter discovered this fire while responding to the Cliff Creek Fire, near Bondurant, Wyoming.
