Obituary – Margaret McCarty Williams
Celebration of Life August 22 at LDS Church in Pinedale
August 18, 2015
Margaret Ruth (McCarty) Williams 74, passed quietly in her home in Homosassa FL on September 22, 2014. Margaret was the fourth child born to Harley and Beatrice Sharrow in Wheelerville PA, on May 24, 1940. After graduating from Canton High School, she married Charles McCarty of Eagles Mere, PA. Together they had two children, enjoyed camping, backpacking, travel, hunting and fishing. After living in several other states, the family moved to Pinedale in 1973. They started Sublette Communications and ran the FBO at the Pinedale Airport. Aviation was always a large part of their life together.
In the early 1980s, the family sold their businesses, purchased a small sailboat in Seattle, and spent a couple years cruising to both Alaska and Mexico. Upon return, Margaret cared for her ill mother until her mom’s death. She and Charles ended their 28 year marriage & business partnership. She started another successful business, Office Supply.
Margaret married Henry (Hank) Williams of Pinedale WY in the LDS Temple in Utah. Margaret enjoyed her new work in the LDS Genealogy Library and all the people she met in the church. She also worked in the Pinedale School as a substitute Para Aide, was an Activities Director at Sublette Retirement Center, and also worked at the Food Basket.
After suffering a major stoke, she fought her way back, and was again able to lead a busy life. She moved to a small home in Florida, enjoyed local activities there, and liked riding her bike with her little dog Yoda (Pictured) in the basket.
She loved animals, and always had them around her. She had dogs, cats, horses, chickens, turkeys, ferrets and she even had a baby skunk, which didn’t work out too well (after it sprayed!) She also liked to quilt, craft, and sew in her spare time.
Margaret is survived by her two children, Cindi McCarty Smith and Clay McCarty, son-in-law John F. Smith; and daughter-in-law Cheryl McCarty, all of Pinedale. She also leaves grandchildren Corey Smith and his wife Karyn, of Pinedale and Samantha McCarty, of Montana She has two great-grandchildren, Nathan and Kyra Smith. Surviving siblings are Marion Cole NY and Harley Sharrow, Jr. PA. Locally, she leaves extended family Ernie, Maxine, & Sandy Kawa, and Charle & Annie McCarty of Montana.
Margaret was a vibrant member of Pinedale for many years, and the family would love to have anyone in the community come to her Life Celebration at the LDS Church in Pinedale. It will be in the Relief Society room, North parking lot entrance. Saturday August 22 at 4PM. A dinner to follow in the church.
