Big Piney-Marbleton Senior Housing opens
Housing for seniors age 60 and over

The Big Piney-Marbleton Joint Powers Board held an Open House and Ribbon Cutting ceremony for their new senior housing facilities on Monday, October 28th. The senior housing is available to residents who are 60 years of age and older. These units are intended for people who are able to live independently without assisted care. There are no medical facilities or services as part of this housing facility.
The duplex complex includes 24 new housing units adjacent to the Southwest Sublette County Pioneers Senior Center in Marbleton. Half of the units are on the west side of the senior center and the other half located on the east side. Four model apartments were showcased for the Open House, two, one-bedroom units and two, two-bedroom units.
Housing is maintenance free and includes paid sewer and water, trash pickup. Units have washer/dryer, microwave, garbage disposal, dishwasher, electric range, refrigerator with ice maker, stainless steel appliances, granite counter tops, choice of two colors of cabinetry (white or cherry), remote control ceiling fan, single-car attached garage with electric garage door opener. The large windows will have wood blinds for coverings. The garage has some upper storage cabinets and there is room to put in a small portable workbench for those who are handy and would like a place for some hand tools. All the hallways, doorways and accesses are wheelchair width accessible. Some of the shower units will swap out the sliding glass doors for curtains to allow for wheel chair access.
Pets are allowed with a non-refundable security deposit. The facilities are non-smoking, so those who smoke need to step outside for their breaks. The units include covered cement porches off the kitchen with room for several chairs and a table. The complex is nicely landscaped with
Construction of the facility was funded by money from the Towns of Big Piney and Marbleton with a generous match by the Sublette County Commissioners. The County also helped provide the land for the housing units, which were purposely located next to the senior center for easy walking access to the centerís meal, recreation services and meeting facilities.
The Joint Powers Board is in the process of applying for 501(C)3 tax status, which will allow it to accept donations and contributions to help run and maintain the new facility.
Renting begins November 1st and reservations are being taken now. Cost for a one-bedroom apartment is $500/month. Cost for the two-bedroom unit is $800/month. Residents pay for their own electricity, phone, TV and internet service. Units are unfurnished, however some arrangements can be made for use of furniture that has been donated.
