Original post, 10/16/12:
Alyssa Wechsler, an Assistant Research Scientist with the Wyoming Survey & Analysis Center (WYSAC) based out of the University of Wyoming, is seeking approximately 20 people to participate in a two-hour focus group for a survey she is developing on the perceived health effects of ozone. Two focus groups will be held the week of October 22-26, in Pinedale and Marbleton.
According to Wechsler, the focus group participants will pre-test the ozone survey, then give feedback on the content of the survey questionnaire and the crafting the wording of the survey questions. Their responses to the survey will not be analyzed or distributed in any way.
The final goal will be to develop and field the revised survey to the general public in March of 2013, around the time when elevated ozone levels have typically occurred in Sublette County, to survey a larger sample size of random participants about their perceptions regarding health issues related to ozone.
The focus group is being funded by grants from the University of Wyoming Department of Arts and Sciences and WYSAC. Wechsler has already worked with a number of local individuals and groups to develop potential survey questions. The larger survey hoped for March, 2013 is not yet funded.
These two focus groups are for permanent and temporary residents of Sublette, Lincoln or Sweetwater counties who are 18 years of age or older. Wechsler is looking for individuals with varying employment backgrounds and levels of familiarity with ozone in the Upper Green River Basin. Participants will be provided with refreshments and a $30 stipend paid for by the grant.
Anyone interested must call Alyssa Wechsler at the WYSAC office at 307-399-3247 by Friday, October 19th to confirm eligibility and participation in the focus groups. Unconfirmed individuals and walk-ins will not be allowed to participate.
