October 4, 2012
The Pinedale Fine Arts Council is proud to present the word famous Glenn Miller Orchestra performing live Friday, October 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the Pinedale Auditorium. This performance is almost three years in the making so PFAC is extremely excited to present this dynamic group and encourages everyone (young & old) to try to make it down to the auditorium.
The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra is the most popular big band in the world today for both concert and swing dance engagements. With its unique jazz sound, the Glenn Miller Orchestra is considered to be one of the greatest bands of all time. The present Glenn Miller Orchestra was formed in 1956 and has been touring consistently since, playing an average of 300 live dates a year all around the world. As of January 2012, Nick Hilscher is the orchestra's musical director.
The 19 member band is the most sought after big-band, as it was when Glenn Miller himself headed the group. More than half a million people attend the bandís performances each year, and most events are a sellout.
The group consists of five saxophone players, four trombonists, three rhythm musicians, and both a male and female vocalist.
In addition to playing Glenn Millerís biggest records like In the Mood, and many of the sounds of the 40ís and World War II, the bandís musical library totals more than 1,700 compositions.
Random bit of trivia: The Orchestra recently performed for over 25,000 dancers in Buffalo, New York on a 450 foot long dance floor to earn the Guinness Book World Record for the "Largest Dance."
Ticket prices for the Oct. 5 performance are $13 for adults and $7 for students (kids under the age of 5 are free). Tickets are on sale now at Rock Rabbit, Pine Street Floral & Gifts, The Cowboy Shop, Office Outlets, Isabel Jewelry, the Big Piney Library and at the door the night of the performance ($2 extra).
