June 8, 2012
U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo) is encouraging students and graduates from all backgrounds to apply for internships in his office this fall. The deadline for applications is June 29th.
"Internships in my D.C. and state offices provide Wyoming students with an invaluable opportunity to observe and participate within the United States Senate," said Barrasso. "I encourage all who are interested to apply."
D.C. internships, which include hands-on, individualized activities, offer experience in the heartbeat of the nationís government. Interns are able to network, develop crucial job skills and cultivate meaningful experiences to further their education and career goals. Typical intern tasks include giving Capitol building tours in D.C., writing policy or hearing summaries, preparing memos, conducting research for legislative aides, observing floor proceedings and attending committee hearings and lectures.
D.C. interns receive a monthly stipend to defray the cost of living in Washington, D.C. and can also coordinate receiving college credit for the internship. Priority is given to students from Wyoming, or those studying in Wyoming.
Senator Barrasso also offers internships in his Wyoming state offices. In-state interns work closely with the Senatorís field staff to help constituents, closely follow the issues important to Wyoming and interact with the Senator during his weekly trips home.
The fall internships run from Sept. 4th-Dec. 21st. Applicants should be 21 years of age or older. Both print and online applications are available at www.barrasso.senate.gov. Select the "Student" tab and click on "Intern Program." For additional information, contact Mary Jane Saunier at (202) 224-6441.
