Northwest College Jazz Band I and Studio Singers in Pinedale Oct. 25
October 12, 2011
The Northwest College Jazz Band I and Studio Singers will rock the rafters at a 7:00 p.m. concert in the Pinedale High School Auditorium Tuesday, October 25.
The award-winning groups will offer plenty of contemporary big band compositions and jazz vocals. Highlights include Rogers and Hartís "This Canít Be Love" performed by the Studio Singers, and the Jazz Bandís rendition of "The Way I Feel About You," used by Doc Severinsenís band to close "The Tonight Show" during the Johnny Carson era of the program.
The groups will perform separately before joining talents at the close of the concert for Louis Primaís swing classic "Jump, Jive and Wail," sending audience members out the door with a wiggle in their walk.
Longtime Sublette County residents might recognize Neil Hansen, the Jazz Band director. Hansen taught music at Big Piney High School from 1976-81. In addition to his current role as professor of music at NWC, Hansen is also director of bands and chair of the Visual and Performing Arts Division.
The Studio Singers ensemble is directed by Craig Olson, adjunct instructor and director of the Craig Olson Orchestra.
The Northwest College groups are stopping in Pinedale during a three-day musical tour of southwest Wyoming.
Admission to the concert is free.
