Lummis encourages Wyoming to vote on Washington spending cuts
by U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis media release
May 21, 2010

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) is encouraging Wyoming citizens to get involved in a first-of-its-kind vote project that gives Americans the ability to choose what Washington spending cuts they would like to see enacted. Every week, House Republicans will force a House floor vote on what Americans pinpointed as their top priority.

"As I traveled around Wyoming over the past year and a half, I’ve heard growing concern about the out-of-control spending in Washington. People are worried about the future of their children, grandchildren and the road our country is headed down. I am continuing to fight against Washington’s borrow as if there were no tomorrow attitude.

"Project YouCut involves Americans by taking wasteful programs, many of which I’ve been hearing about at home, and gives Americans the ability to vote which Washington programs will see budget cuts. It’s a great way for Wyoming people and all Americans to get more involved to help stop Washington’s culture of runaway spending."

Each week five proposals to reduce wasteful or unnecessary spending will be listed online at www.republicanwhip.house.gov/YouCut. House Republicans will then offer Americans’ top priorities on the House floor.

Lummis, former Wyoming Treasurer, has voted against well over $3 trillion in federal spending since taking office. She has not requested a single earmark and her Republican colleagues in the House of Representatives have decided to follow her example this year by swearing off earmarks altogether. Lummis has supported successful efforts to block Member pay raises over the last two years. She has also called for an additional five percent cut, which would be the first cut in Members’ pay since the Great Depression.
