Wyoming Gasoline Agricultural Exemption renewal simplified
by Wyoming Department of Transportation
April 5, 2010

The Wyoming Department of Transportation’s Fuel Tax Administration Program has simplified the renewal process for the state’s Gasoline Agricultural Exemption Program to cut the time required to renew the exemption for users already participating in the program.

"The feedback we have received from our customers, matched with our current workload and staffing in the FTA Program, has led to these changes," said Sharon Gostovich, Fuel Tax Administration Program manager. "We believe that these changes will streamline the agricultural exemption renewal process and shorten the turnaround time."

Wyoming law allows for a credit to the purchaser of gasoline used for agricultural purposes, if the gasoline is purchased from a Wyoming licensed distributor or importer. The credit is equal to 70 percent of the gasoline license taxes imposed by state law on bulk gasoline purchases.

New applicants to the exemption program must provide initial information such as lists of vehicles and equipment the gasoline will be used in and where the fuel will be stored. Renewing applicants now will only be required to note any changes in those listed items during the previous 12 months.

Both new applicants and renewing users will still be required to complete the application in its entirety and provide acceptable proof of agricultural revenue and sales.

Gostovich said the streamlined renewal process will benefit both the approximately 2,100 agricultural customers participating in the program and the state.

"We are committed to administering the state’s fuel tax laws, and that includes partnering with our customers and evolving our work processes," she said. "We believe these changes will be welcomed by our agricultural customers, and our program will enjoy the benefits of newfound efficiencies."
