(Pinedale, WY) – "By educating teens about the realities of risky sexual situations our hope is that we will see a reduction in the rate of teen childbearing and a subsequent increase in high school graduates and a lightening of the burden on taxpayers," said Heidi Dickerson, Chief Executive Officer of the Pregnancy Resource Center in Pinedale.
To this end, the Pregnancy Resource Center is encouraging local teens to participate in the ninth annual National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy on May 5, 2010. The purpose of the National Day is to focus the attention of teens on the importance of avoiding too-early pregnancy and parenthood through an interactive online quiz.
On the National Day, teens nationwide are asked to go www.StayTeen.org" and take a short, scenario-based quiz (available in English and Spanish). The online quiz challenges young people to think carefully about what they would do in a number of risky sexual situations.
"Recently encouraging data was released which reflected a 2% decline in the nation’s teen birth rate," said Heidi Dickerson, CEO of the Pregnancy Resource Center. "This is a trend that we want to continue. We are doing our part to educate teens with the resources they need to think critically about sexual activity, the possibility of too-early pregnancy, and the lifelong challenges of becoming a parent."
The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, the organizing agency of the National Day, is a nonprofit, nonpartisan initiative whose mission is to promote values, behavior and policies that reduce both teen pregnancy and unplanned pregnancy among young adults.
