Members of the Mixed Media artists traveled to Cody on April 23rd to participate in the weekend events of the Wyoming Artists' Association convention. These included a Quick Draw and auction, workshops conducted by renowned artists M. C. Poulsen and Gerald Shippen, luncheon and banquet, and an art exhibit. The theme this year was "A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words".
Members making the trip were Helen O'Hara of Pinedale, Holland Morelli of Cora, Charmian McLellan of Boulder, Kay Meeks and Sandy Brewer of Daniel, Cyndi Sorg-Wagner of Riverton, Dee Parker and Peggy Prugh of Jackson, Justine Bruteig of Kelly, Jody Gilmore of Evanston, and Debbie Despain of Big Piney.
Once again, the members garnered the lion's share of awards in all exhibit categories. They are as follows: Peggy Prugh, second place in Oil/Acrylic and "Other" Media; first place in Watercolor, and Honorable Mention in the "Theme" show; Kay Meeks, first place in Graphics; Charmian McLellan, Honorable Mentions in Oil/Acrylic, Pastel, and "Theme"; Ruth Rawhouser, second place in "Theme" and Honorable Mention in Pastel; Cyndi Wagner, third place in Oil/Acrylic and Honorable Mention in "Theme"; Jody Gilmore, third place in Miniature and Honorable Mention in Oil/Acrylic; Cyndi Wagner received "Artists' Choice" on one painting and "People's Choice" on another.
There is also a "Congressional Show" from which 12 pieces are selected to be displayed in the offices of Wyoming's senators and representative in Washington, D. C., for one year. Mixed Media artists selected for this honor were Jody Gilmore, Charmian McLellan, Ruth Rawhouser, and Cyndi Wagner.
Charmian McLellan was tapped as this year's "Grand Wyoming Artist". This award is presented each year to a WAA member who is a strong supporter of the organization and strives to sponsor art activities in his or her community.
Kay Meeks, Jody Gilmore, and Charmian McLellan are past presidents of WAA. Next year's president is Debbie Despain and she will host the 2011 WAA convention in Dubois next May. The theme will be "Why I Love Wyoming".
Artists are welcome and encouraged to join WAA. If interested, please contact any Mixed Media member for more information.
