Winter Storm Watches in effect for western Wyoming
5-10 inches new snow possible by Wednesday
March 29, 2010

The National Weather Service –Riverton office has posted Winter Storm Watches for much of far western Wyoming and the west slopes of the Wind River Mountains Monday night through early Wednesday morning.

Widespread snow is expected in the mountains of western Wyoming Monday night through tuesday night, with significant snowfall expected. Snow levels will initially be around 9000 feet, but will descend to near the valley floors by Tuesday morning. Snow will continue through Thursday. Some areas of the western mountains could see accumulations of 10 to 25 inches. Lower elevations may get 5 to 10 inches of fresh snow.

Strong west to southwest winds will continue in places east side of the Continental Divide in central and eastern Wyoming through Tuesday night.

Wind and snow may cause blowing and drifting snow with near white-out conditions with visibility near zero at times.

Travel is expected to become quite difficult over South Pass.
