Will undergo surgery for lung cancer

On Tuesday, November 3rd, State Treasurer, Joe Meyer, held a press conference to provide information to the public about the results of some medical tests he recently underwent.
Treasurer Meyer explained that about two weeks ago when he was attending a meeting, he reached for something and felt as if he pulled a muscle in his shoulder and chest. Because the pain of that injury was very unusual he went to the doctor and found that he actually had a tumor which is primarily on the outside of the lung, protruding inward. "I am very fortunate", stated Meyer, "to have made this discovery early on." Since the tumor is encapsulated in fluid, although malignant, it has not metastasized. The bone scan tests were totally clear.
Meyer stated that his other test results were very encouraging, including the pulmonary lung function. "My lung function is good so I guess it’s a good thing I was a jock when I was young and have remained active in the outdoors with my two sons," stated Meyer.
"I’m a fairly private person", Meyer stated, "but as a state official, I believe people deserve to know what is happening. I know people worry about me because I have been a smoker. Mary has been trying to get me to quit for years, now I’m finally listening to her," he said.
Meyer said he is expecting to undergo surgery within a couple weeks to have the tumor removed. It is anticipated that after being released from the hospital he will be back to work in about 4 to 6 weeks.
"There’s been a member of our family working in this Capitol building since 1971, so I look forward to getting fixed up and getting back to work," Meyer concluded.
