BLM seeks public comment on proposed Jonah Geophysical Survey
by Bureau of Land Management
August 6, 2009

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Pinedale Field Office is seeking public comment on the draft environmental assessment (EA) to conduct 3D geophysical exploration on 170 square miles (108,800 acres) of federal lands in southern Sublette Co., Wyo.

The project area includes lands in the BLM Pinedale and Rock Springs Field Offices. The project will evaluate mineral resources in the area, thereby reducing the potential for nonproductive wells and optimizing the positioning of wells drilled in the future. Equipment for the geophysical exploration would consist of buggy type vibrators.

The EA will be available for review August 6, 2009 at http://www.blm.gov/wy/st/en/info/NEPA/pfodocs/jonah3d.html. Printed copies or a CD of the EA will also be available at the front desk of the Pinedale and Rock Springs Field Offices during regular business hours. The public comment period runs August 4, through August 18, 2009.

For more information, please contact Tim Zebulske at, 307-367-5336. Please send comments to: BLM Pinedale Field Office at 1625 West Pine Street, mail to: P.O. Box 768, Pinedale, WY 82941; or email: pinedale_wymail@blm.gov; be sure to include the phrase "Jonah 3D project" in the subject line. Comments may also be faxed to: 307-367-5329.

Before including address, phone number, email address, or other personal identifying information in comments, be aware that the entire comment - including personal identifying information - may be made publicly available at any time. While individuals may request that the BLM withhold personal identifying information from public review, the BLM cannot guarantee this information will be withheld. The BLM will not consider anonymous comments. All submissions from organizations and businesses, from individuals identifying themselves as representatives or officials of organizations or businesses, will be available for public inspection in their entirety.

The BLM manages more land – 256 million acres – than any other Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western States, including Alaska. The Bureau, with a budget of about $1 billion, also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM’s multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands.
