Mountain Goats

Lynn Wittlieff spotted these mountain goats in the Snake River Canyon, north of Pinedale, last weekend. Mountain goats live on steep mountain terrain traversing precarious cliff-side ledges with confidence and ease. They grow up to four feet in height and weigh between 100-300 pounds. Young are born in May and are up and walking following the mother within hours.

Finding grass Shoots of tender grass are starting to come up on the hillsides.	Herd of goats The goats were out in abundance in the canyon.	Looking back The animals keep a constant lookout for danger.
Shaggy beast Their thick coats keep them warm in the winter.
