Area Flood Watch issued
Temperature expected to be near 60 degrees by Monday
April 12, 2008

The National Weather Service out of Riverton has issued a Flood Watch for Sunday and Monday, April 13-14, for portions of Northwest Wyoming, Southwest Wyoming and West Central Wyoming, including the towns of Jackson Hole, Kemmerer, Cokeville, Afton, Alpine and Thayne. The Flood Watch includes:

Jackson Hole
Star Valley
Salt River and Wyoming Ranges
South Lincoln County

The Flood Watch is effective between 3:00PM on Sunday, April 13, to 9:00PM on Monday, April 14.

Daytime temperatures are expected to be near 50 degrees on Sunday and climb to as warm as 60 degrees on Monday. This brief warmup in temperatures will cause rapid snowmelt in the lower elevations. Residents of Star Valley, Jackson Hole and the Hams Fork Valley can expected rapid increases in small streams and creeks due to rapid snowmelt and ice jamming.

The forecast for Tuesday to the weekend is for a mixture of rain and snow with daytime highs in the 40s.

A flood watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
