WY Centennial Scenic Byway Committee gets grant
$716,000 for signs, interpretive exhibits
by Wyoming Centennial Scenic Byway Committee
January 23, 2008

The Wyoming Centennial Scenic Byway Committee is happy to announce that it has just been awarded a $716,000 grant by the Federal Highway Administration National Scenic Byway Program. This project will fund the completion of three byway portal kiosk sites; the design, fabrication and construction of two interpretive pullout sites, construction of sixteen scenic byway entrance signs, the design of interpretive exhibits and space at the new Visitor Center in Pinedale and ongoing byway coordination. Byway travelers will benefit from enhanced interpretation, orientation and facilities, while the communities of Pinedale, Jackson and Dubois look forward to a positive economic impact from enhanced tourism.

Partners in the Wyoming Centennial Scenic Byway include the U.S. Forest Service, Wyoming Game & Fish, the Towns of Dubois, Pinedale and Jackson, Sublette County, and other interested parties. Funds are administered by the Wyoming Department of Transportation and must be matched at a 20% rate.

The Byway Committee is excited to begin work on their Phase 2 project with these funds. They are also exploring the feasibility of applying for All-American Road status, the highest designation from the National Scenic Byway program. All-American Roads receive special publicity and interest from the traveling public. They are recognized as “a destination unto themselves” and provide exceptional traveling experiences. The Wyoming Centennial Scenic Byway exhibits strengths in most of the “intrinsic qualities” used to determine eligibility to become a National Scenic Byway or All-American Road.
