Defenders slams Wyoming wolf plan

Jamie Rappaport Clark, former director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the executive vice president of the environmental group Defenders of Wildlife, released the following comments about Wyoming’s wolf plan.

“Wyoming’s wolf management plan is more about killing than conservation. In fact, the state has seemingly gone out of its way to offer a plan that will clearly undermine wolf recovery. Wyoming has proposed to kill all but seven breeding pairs outside of the Yellowstone and Teton National Parks. These are not sustainable numbers and this is not management."

"Defenders of Wildlife has long argued that delisting the wolf would be an irresponsible decision because of Wyoming’s bad management plan. Wyoming’s plan, which has been released for public comment today, is further evidence that the state is no where near committed to the sustainable management of wolves."

“It is negligent of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to even consider delisting wolves when Wyoming has a plan thats main thrust is extermination. After all, isn’t that how the wolves got on the endangered species list thirty years ago?"

“During this public comment period, concerned individuals have the opportunity to voice their displeasure with the plan and encourage the state to come up with a wolf management plan that will ensure the continued recovery of the wolf.”
