Framed as a proposal to end aerial gunning of wolves in Alaska, proposed legislation introduced in Congress would actually end aerial gunning of almost
 all wildlife throughout the nation.

This is an important bill, as aerial control of chronic problem wolves is often the
only method to stop depredation problems.

The bill, called “Protect America’s Wildlife Act” (PAW), it’s heavily backed by
Defenders of Wildlife. An action alert sent out by Defenders president Rodger
Schlickelsen noted: “There is no doubt that our message is powerful and we
have real momentum to end aerial hunting of wolves. But another deadly season
of aerial hunting in Alaska is just weeks away, and wolf opponents in the
Greater Yellowstone Region are chomping at the bit to begin their own aerial
 hunting programs.”
