Salt Lick Fire on the Bridger-Teton Grows – Evacuations Recommended
Fire at 2,000 acres

Editor's Note: This release just came in (updated again at 8:35 PM) from the Bridger-Teton National Forest on the new fire. Note, shortly after this release came out, new information was released placing the fire size at 2,000 acres. Four Sublette County engines will remain on the fire overnight. Fire burning to the Northeast as of the time of this report. Highway 352-Green River Lakes Road is open. The Moose-Gypsum Road is closed.

(Pinedale) – The Salt Lick Fire on the Bridger-Teton National Forest began around 2:00pm Wednesday afternoon 31-miles northwest of the town of Pinedale, Wyoming and 5-miles southwest of Green River Lakes. The fire, now at over 1000 acres, has led officials to strongly recommend evacuations at the Red Cliff Bible Camp and adjacent in holdings, which is 3-1/2 miles from Highway 352.

Additionally, officials are encouraging the residents of 30 homes at the junction of Highway 352 and Forest Road 680, known as the Red Hills area, to prepare for possible evacuations.

The fire danger for the Bridger-Teton is listed as extreme. The fire isburning in thick lodgepole pine and the area is prolific with beetle killed trees. Paul Hutta, East Zone Fire Management Officer for the Bridger-Teton is the Incident Commander. Two Interagency fire engines are currently on scene as well as five Sublette County fire apparatus. A helicopter is also aiding the firefighters on this fire.

A Type 2 Incident Management Team has been ordered to assist the Forest in controlling the fire. The cause of the Salt Lick Fire is under investigation. For more information, visit www.inciweb.org.
