Please keep wheeled vehicles off unplowed roads

We received a complaint today from a person who was cross-country skiing up by Fremont Lake and encountered a couple of guys in a truck driving up the campground road, creating deep ruts in the unplowed snow.

We have a lot of new people here who aren’t from snow country and perhaps don’t realize how many people recreate on the unplowed roads in the winter. These roads are used by snowmobilers, cross-country skiers, snowshoers and training sled dog teams for winter recreation.

Please be courteous and don’t joyride wheeled vehicles on these unplowed roads. The ruts make an awful mess for others who want to use the same road for outdoor recreation.

While we are passing along tips for those adventurous souls who may not appreciate the perils of winter daredeviling, it is also unwise and not recommended to drive vehicles onto the frozen surfaces of lakes. Fremont Lake, in particular, is more than 600 feet deep.
