LIEAP help period extended to April 30
Wyoming Low Income Energy Assistance Program
January 24, 2007

The Wyoming Department of Family Services has extended the application season for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program, LIEAP, by two months. The application period was scheduled to end on February 28th, but due to an increase in requests, the program will accept new clients through April 30th.

“Requests for assistance are up, even though utility prices have slightly dropped from last year,” said Jeff Dockter, LIEAP program manager with the Wyoming Department of Family Services. “Income eligibility guidelines have increased, meaning people can make moremoney and still qualify for help. That explains, at least partly, why more people are asking for LIEAP help.”

The extension includes those who need help with past due bills and deposits. That application also is due by April 30, and clients will be able to get crisis assistance through July 31. The maximum crisis benefit available varies depending on the household income and the amount needed to resolve the crisis, according to Dockter.

Clients who already have been approved for help this winter don’t need to re-apply for assistance.

To get a LIEAP application, crisis help, or to speak to a LIEAP representative about energy assistance, call 1-800-246-4221.
