IPSSSDR Jan. 26-Feb. 3 - Sled Dog Race
New Big Piney/Marbleton stages added for 2007
January 13, 2007

Twenty sled dog teams will harness up for the running of the 2007 International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race (IPSSSDR), January 26 – February 3, announced Race Director Frank Teasley. This year’s roster includes many race veterans as well as rookies to the event.

“We will see teams from California, Utah, Colorado and Oregon that are new to the race this year,” Teasley says. “The rest of the teams are previous competitors including familiar faces like Melanie Shirilla, Grant Beck, Jacques Phillip, Warren Palfrey, Sam Perrino and Dan Carter.”

Newcomers to the IPSSSDR include Doug Wurzelbacher, a sled dog tour operator from Chilcoot, California; Kate St. Onge, a former emergency room nurse from Millville, Utah; Jarle Halsnes, a Norwegian ski champion who participated in the 1978 World Championship and the 1980 Olympics at Lake Placid and now lives in Steamboat Springs, Colorado; and Wesley Rau, a physical therapist from Powell Butte, Oregon.

Wyoming mushers in the 2007 event include Dan Carter, Jackson; Stacey Teasley, Jackson; and Wendy Davis, Lander.

Festivities begin with the race start on Jackson’s Town Square, Friday, January 26 with pre-race activities including live music, food, beverages and give-aways. The 2007 race starts at 7:00 p.m. with NASCAR driver David Gilliland driving an honorary team from the Jackson starting line. (Gilliland usually drives the #38 Ford sponsored by Mars, Incorporated brand M&M’S® Chocolate Candies in NASCAR’s NEXTEL Cup Series.)

Directly following the race, the Jackson Hole Winter Carnival provides fireworks and a torchlight parade at Snow King. Pedigree hosts a reception, which is free and open to the public, at Snow King Center from 8:30 to 10:00 p.m.

Pedigree® Food for Dogs is the title sponsor of the IPSSSDR. The Pedigree brand is passionate about dogs and committed to providing them with a lifetime of health and eating enjoyment from foods that are best suited to a dog’s true nature. This superior dog understanding ensures that the Pedigree brand supports activities and events in which the welfare of dogs always comes first. The dog-friendly nature of the IPSSSDR is one of the prime reasons the brand has chosen to support this national competition. To support local pet adoption efforts, Pedigree will make a donation of pet food to animal shelters on the race route.

The International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race was founded in 1996 by Frank Teasley to make sled dog racing more accessible to the public and to promote the need for childhood immunizations.
