Frigid weather on the way
20 to 30 below Zero
January 31, 2007

Another storm system will move into western and central Wyoming in the next few days bringing frigid weather and some snow, says the National Weather Service (NWS) out of Riverton.

The brunt of this new storm system will hit during the day Thursday and linger into Thursday evening across the south, with most areas seeing a period of snowfall. The cold air pouring down Thursday will likely make Friday morning one of the coldest days so far this winter, says the NWS. Overnight lows in western valleys and basins are likely to dip to 20 to 30 below zero Friday morning with 10 to 20 below zero east of the Continental Divide. Saturday will also be cold, but will be moderated a bit by cloud cover and areas of gusty wind.

The storm is expected to bring 1 to 2 inches of snow to the lower elevations, with up to 4 inches near the foothills. The mountains will get between 3 to 6 inches with up to 8 inches on north and northeast-facing slopes.

Strong north winds of 25-35 miles per hour, with gusts to 45 mph, are likely Thursday into Thursday night. Expect areas of blowing and drifting snow and bitter cold wind chills of 20 to 30 below zero.

Be prepared for bitter cold weather conditions and periods of snow Thursday into Thursday night.
