County asks BLM for land
For snowmobile track, golf course and to expand county road maintenance facilities
September 4, 2006

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is has received a request from Sublette County seeking to exchange BLM land over to county use for three major projects.

The County would like to use the lands for the existing snowmobile track near Cora; expansion of Rendezvous Meadows Golf Course in Pinedale to build an additional 18-hole championship golf course southwest of the present 9-hole course; and to expand the county road maintenance facilities near Marbleton.

The BLM is seeking public comment on the proposals. Interested parties should direct their comments to the suitability of the lands for conveyance for the snowmobile track, and for lease/conveyance for a public golf course and expanded county road maintenance facilities. Comments on the classification(s) are restricted to whether the land is physically suited for the proposal(s), whether the use will maximize the future use or uses of the land, whether the use is consistent with local planning and zoning, and if the use is consistent with state and federal programs.

Comments may be submitted in writing to the BLM and must be received no later than Tuesday, October 10. Comments should be mailed to: Bureau of Land Management, Pinedale Field Office, PO Box 768, Pinedale, WY 82941.

Comments, including names and street addresses of respondents, will be available for public review at the Pinedale BLM Field Office. Commenters who wish to have their name withheld from public view, you must state this prominently at the beginning of your comments. Any adverse comments will be reviewed by the state director, who will make the decision on the proposed realty action. In the absence of any adverse comments, the classification will become effective 60 days after August 23, 2006.

The BLM has made the determination that these lands are suitable for classification for lease and/or conveyance under the provisions of the Recreation and Public Purposes Act (R&PP Act). The proposed parcels involve:

Snowmobile Track near Cora – 80 acres
18 Hole Golf Course near Pinedale – 280 acres
Marbleton Road Maintenance Facility – 40 acres

Under the provisions of the R&PP Act, certain terms, conditions and reservations would apply in the land conveyance. All mineral rights are reserved to the United States, with the right to prospect and remove those minerals and the preservation of ditch and canal rights-of-way.

If the country fails to substantially develop the lands in accordance with the approved plan of development within five years, the land would revert back to the federal ownership. If the land is later sold to other ownership and used for anything other than what is specified in the application and plan of development, the county would have to pay the BLM the fair market value of the property as of the date of transfer, including the value of any improvements.
