Editor’s Note: We have answered a lot of emails and phone calls on these topics, so figured there may be a lot more people wondering similar things. Here are answers to some of the hot topic questions we’ve had people ask recently. When you get to town, be sure to stop by the Sublette Visitor Center/Chamber of Commerce, across the street from the Forest Service/Faler’s General Store, to get more area information, maps and literature.

Green River Lakes? Update 6/30/06: Green River Lakes Campground is OPEN! Green River Lakes is on the Bridger-Teton National Forest, approximately 52 miles north of Pinedale at the northern end of the Wind River Mountain Range. This is also a major trailhead access to the northern Wind River Range and Bridger Wilderness. There has been logging going on the past two years to remove hazard trees that have died due to beetle infestation. Everything at Green River Lakes campground area is now OPEN. Campsites are first-come, first-serve for all units. Group sites can be reserved through www.ReserveUSA.com or calling 1-877-444-6777. Trailhead parking and access for overnight camping, corrals, boat launch and boat launch area parking are all open. Note that there are no showers or electricity at any of the Forest Service campgrounds and cell phone reception is often spotty and marginal. A campground host is at the campground who can answer questions. Note that there are NO COMMERCIAL SERVICES once you cross the forest boundary (no restaurants, boat rentals, fuel or motel lodging on National Forest land here). General info | Maps | Pictures |

Reservations for public campgrounds? Most campsite spots on our National Forest and BLM campgrounds are first-come, first-served. The group and reservable spots can be reserved online through www.ReserveUSA.com. Usually there isn’t a problem finding a spot, although the campgrounds will get very busy during Rendezvous weekend. Nearest campgrounds are at Fremont and Half Moon Lakes (Forest Service) and Warren Bridge (BLM). More campground info

Finding a job in the oilfield? Click on this link to get to our article with links to many resources. Our county doesn’t have a job placement office, and there isn’t one centralized place to get info on all the jobs available at any given time in the industry. Most employers advertise in the classifieds of the local area papers near where the job will be, and the bigger companies hire through the Wyoming Job Service. Finding a Job in the Oilfield

Pig Wrestling and Greased Pig Contests? These two events occur during our Sublette County Fair in July/August. To find out how to set one up in your town, we can refer you to the companies we hire to put on the event for us. We want one for our Fair? | Click here for photos: Pig Wrestling & Greased Pig Contest

Fishing around Pinedale? The Pinedale area offers a variety of fishing opportunities. The Green and New Fork Rivers are almost legendary for trout fishing. Lower lakes offer great shore and boat fishing. High alpine lakes have a variety of fish species combined with “getting away from it all”. Local fishing guides can take you in for a personalized trip. Check these links, or ask the folks where you are staying if they can arrange guide services for you. Licenses can be purchased from local sporting goods stores and the Game & Fish Department. Two Rivers Emporium and the Great Outdoor Shop in Pinedale stores with fly fishing gear, local flies and experienced guides/fishermen for more info. Fishing | | More Guides

Area Mountain Biking? There are many places to go for off-trail riding. White Pine Ski Area offers challenging mountain biking trails down the ski hill as well as less-difficult cross-country trails. Mountain bike rentals and gear available at the sport shop at the ski lodge. The ski area has outfitted their lift with special racks to carry mountain bikes to the top of the ski hill. Local Lodging? We’re in our busiest season, so ALWAYS call ahead and book your room in advance. This applies to the Pinedale area, as well as south county for Big Piney and Marbleton. Local Lodging | Public campgrounds | Chamber of Commerce: 1-888-285-7282.

Little Buckaroo Rodeos? We have a Lil’ Buckaroo Rodeo over the 4th of July during Chuckwagon Days, www.chuckwagondays.com, and another one during the Sublette County Fair, www.sublette.com/countyfair. These are great fun for the kids and for spectators. Usually free and any kid under the age of 14 can participate. Held at the Sublette County Fairgrounds, just north of Marbleton on Highway 189. There are even events for the littlest tykes (Stick horse barrel racing)! Events are for boys and girls and include goat-tail tying (tie a ribbon on a goat’s tail), mutton-busting (riding a sheep!), saddle bronc, mini bulls. These events typically fill up early, so parents, if you are interested in signing up your child, call the contact numbers early. Map to Fairgrounds. Last year our Little Buckaroo Rodeos were featured in an Italian Horse enthusiast magazine!

ATV riding around Pinedale? There are many miles of back-country roads for off-roading. Be sure to know where you are (private vs. public land) and pick up a travel map from the managing entity to see where you can and cannot go. ATV and ORV information

Current fire restrictions around Pinedale? Fire danger went up to MODERATE on the Bridger-Teton National Forest yesterday (Tuesday). No restrictions are in place as of yet, but things are drying out more in the backcountry. ALWAYS be careful with campfires and cigarettes and remember there are NO fireworks allowed at any time on National Forest or BLM public land.

Contact info for Chuckwagon Days and Rendezvous Days Parades to enter a float? The Chuckwagon Days parade will be on the morning of Tuesday, July 4th, in downtown Big Piney. Contact the Big Piney Town Hall for information about the Chuckwagon Days Parade, 307-276-3554. The Rendezvous Days Parade will be on main street in Pinedale on Saturday, July8th. Float entries should be in to the Sublette County Chamber of Commerce before June 30th, 1-888-285-7282, 307-367-2242, sublettechamber@wyoming.com. Drivers: Note that main street through Pinedale shuts down completely to through traffic during the parade and travelers will need to use side routes to get around the parade. There also is road construction taking place on the main north-south side streets through downtown Pinedale, so you may need to do a bit of juggling to get around the parade on Saturday.

Primitive camping for Rendezvous Days? There is no special place set aside for primitive mountain man camping for the public. The public can disperse camp on National Forest and BLM land in the nearby area, but none are within walking distance of town activities. The American Mountain Men will have their Mountain Man camp set up on the grounds of the Museum of the Mountain Man, but that will be part of the living history displays that the public can walk through and look at the camps. Contact the Chamber of Commerce, 1-888-285-7282, or Elisha at 307-367-4704, for more information on "Trader’s Row", which is for the fur trade era vendors who are in a special area separate from the contemporary craft fair and is period-specific wares as might have been sold during the 1800s fur trade era rendezvous. Jobs around Pinedale? Check out our Job Board. Also check the classified ads for the local newspapers. Both print once a week, on Thursdays. Pictures of Whiskey Grove Campground? This small campground is located on the road to Green River Lakes, and is right on the Green River in a nice grove of trees. Access opens up generally the end of June. The river runs really high near the campsites in the spring and we don’t recommend it for campers with small children at that time of year. Small, secluded campground with a neat water pump to get drinking water. Pictures of Whiskey Grove Campground

Are there rattlesnakes around Pinedale? No. There reportedly are rattlesnakes in Rock Springs, but we don’t have them in Sublette County, the Wind River Range, Gros Ventres, Wyoming Range or the desert Mesa.
