Winter Storm Warning through Sunday
8-18 inches new snow possible overnight
December 31, 2005

A Winter Storm Warning has been posted for western Wyoming and the Upper Green River Basin, including Pinedale, for Saturday through Sunday morning. A Pacific storm system over northern California and southern Oregon will continue to bring snowfall into western Wyoming through Sunday morning. Snow showers are then expected to taper off by noon as the system moves through.

Snowfall is expected to become heavy at times overnight, with an additional 6-8 inches possible near Bondurant and Cora. Pinedale and Boulder are likely to see 4-6 inches of new snow over New Year’s Eve. There will also be some blowing and drifting snow which may create limited visibility at times.

The lower valleys below 6500 feet may see light rain. The cold front will move through by Saturday evening, changing the rain to all snow. Up to 18 inches of new snow is possible in the mountains and up to 8 inches in the valleys.

Travelers are advised to be prepared for snow packed and slippery road conditions, so allow for extra time to reach your destination. A Winter Storm Warning means sleet, ice and strong winds are also possible, warns the National Weather Service, which may make travel very hazardous or impossible.

Another round of accumulating snow will arrive in western Wyoming on Monday and Monday night.
