Plane crashes into Snake River
November 18, 2005

(Jackson) The Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF) temporarily closed the Forest boat ramps in the Snake River Canyon as a result of a plane crash in the Snake River Friday around 9:00 am, according to a news release from the BTNF.

A Civil Air Patrol aircraft crashed in the Snake River just south of Wolf Creek, between Hoback Junction and Alpine, Wyoming. The pilot, identified as 57-year old Fletcher Anderson of Jackson, was killed in the crash. He was the only occupant of the plane.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and Star Valley Search and Rescue managed response operations. The condition of the pilot was unknown at the time of this release. The National Transportation and Safety Board (NTSB) have requested that the plane be left as is, pending investigation.

The aircraft is obstructing the channel, and there are pieces of the wreckage secured to the bank by ropes. In order to provide for the safety of its visitors, and to protect the accident scene, the Bridger-Teton National Forest has temporarily closed the Snake River from Astoria Boat Ramp to Sheep Gulch Boat Ramp. This temporary closure will also protect the crash site from any additional disturbance and will be lifted once the investigation is complete, and wreckage is removed from the river. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is overseeing this incident.
