Small fire at Yellowstone’s Old Faithful Inn

If you’ve seen the magnificent Old Faithful Inn at Yellowstone National Park, this story will make you cringe.
In the early morning hours of Friday, September 2, a fire broke out at the Old Faithful Inn. The fire ignited on the front porch over the inn's main entrance. A preliminary inspection of the scene by Yellowstone's Fire Chief indicated that an estimated one-third of the historic porch railing was destroyed by the fire, in addition to a pile of lumber that was being used for the inn's renovation. All occupants were evacuated from the building.
A total of 16 fire extinguishers were utilized by inn staff to keep the fire at bay until Park Servide firefighters arrived on scene. Five personnel responded in two engines and all flames were quickly extinguished. Firefighters remained on-site for an additional hour, pulling floorboards and clearing debris, to ensure nothing was left smoldering.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
