Wyoming Geology
Rocks, precious minerals, mining history, more
May 22, 2005

Wyoming has tremendously interesting geology for those who enjoy rock hounding, finding fossils, rare gems & minerals and mountain geomorphology. We have the Continental Divide Rocky Mountains with ancient rocks; we have the Yellowstone ‘Super Volcano’; we have dinosaur bones and fish fossils; there is petrified wood in the Upper Green River Valley; we have sand dunes south of us at the Killpecker Sand Dunes; we have classic glacial moraines and glacial features all around Pinedale.

The Wyoming State Geological Survey has a website at http://www.wsgs.uwyo.edu. They offer a lot of geologic information online, as well as a link to their printable 2005 publication catalog of maps, published reports, USGS topo maps, posters, Wyoming geologic time chart, Wyoming geologic maps, digital products.
