Obituary – Lois Nichols Lois Nichols passed away peacefully on November 9th, 2025.
Lois Lynn Nichols was born on May 5th, 1946 in Kemmerer, Wyoming. Her father, a coal miner, and mother, a librarian, both demonstrated values of family, hard work and Christian beliefs, which instilled qualities that Lois demonstrated her entire life. Lois graduated from Kemmerer High School in 1964 and furthered her education by attending Westminster College in Salt Lake City, UT. Eventually, she found her passion as a beautician and graduated from Cosmetology School.
Lois started her career in Kemmerer, but then met the love of her life, Spencer Nichols, and they were married May 24, 1969. They moved to Big Piney where Lois opened a beauty shop in the basement of their home in Marbleton. Lois’ entrepreneurial aspirations became a reality when she opened The Sagebrush store on Main Street in Big Piney which was a beauty, flower, and gift shop and women’s western wear store. Lois eventually sold the store, but continued to cut hair well over 50 years.
Lois and Spencer had two sons, Wil and Nick. Both sons were active in sports throughout elementary, junior high and high school. Lois was their biggest fan and that continued through their college rodeo careers and also in life. Lois loved so many kids in Big Piney through the years; most of them only knew her as Auntie. Lois had a gift of knowing how to share her love, which culminated into her being a true gift and friend to everyone who knew her. You could count on a loaf of banana bread or a quilt to take home with you if you went to her house. She extended her love exponentially to her grandkids, Melissa, Rhett, Dally, Taylor and Kloe.
She would travel to watch games, concerts, awards presentations and rodeos, trying to never miss a moment of their successes. Lois and Spencer were very active in Eastern Stars, with Spencer becoming the Worthy Grand Patron for the state of Wyoming. They traveled across the state, which broadened their Eastern Star family and developed amazing friendships across Wyoming. Lois’ family, rodeo family, Eastern Star family and her friendship circle were expansive and will all miss her dearly.
Lois is preceded in death by her husband Spencer Nichols, her Mother and Father Frank and Evelyn Clark, her brother Ray Clark, and her Father and Mother-in-law, George and Evelene Nichols. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Joe and Diane Fagnant, son Wil Nichols, son and daughter-in-law Nick and Lora Nichols, grandchildren Melissa Smith (husband Austin), Rhett Nichols (wife Lacy), Dally Nichols, Taylor McDonald (husband Leland) and Kloe and great grandchildren Everly Pearl Smith, Royce Nichols and Markie Jo McDonald. Lois "Loved You to The Moon and Back!"
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 25th at 2:00 p.m. at the Marbleton Senior Center. Interment will follow the service in the Plainview Cemetery.
