Three-mile fun Run, Walk or Trot on Thanksgiving morning
Craig Sheppard
Don't miss the annual Pinedale Turkey Trot 5000 to be held Thanksgiving morning starting at the Craig & Ellen Sheppard's house (22 Sportsmans Loop). This is a three-mile fun run, walk or trot. It starts at 9 AM. All levels of fitness are welcomed.

Everyone needs to register, however there is no charge to enter unless you want to get a long-sleeved Turkey Trot t-shirt. Registration starts at 8:30 AM.

We had over 100 participants last year, so hope to add to the growing field again this year. Any questions call 307-367-4654 for more details. This is a good way to burn some calories before you eat all the turkey, dressing and pie that day!

Since August, members of the Pinedale Community Theatre have been toiling with auditions, costumes, sets, posters and more for the culminating event of the three-night production of its first musical production of "The Sound of Music" starting Thursday.

More than 100 locals are participating in the production by acting, playing instruments, singing, making costumes, applying makeup, styling hair, moving set pieces, creating programs, reading lines, and helping where they can.

PCT brought in John Goss of Aspen, Colo., to direct the production with David Dyer, also of Aspen, Colo., serving as the conductor for this maiden musical of the PTC.

The curtain is set to rise Thursday night at 7 p.m. for the opening show, with encore performances on Friday and Saturday at the Pinedale High School Auditorium.

School Facilities Commission approves construction
Pinedale Online and Dari Quirk
After considerable discussion, the Wyoming School Facilities Commission approved construction of a new 570-student elementary school for Pinedale during a meeting on Wednesday, November 18th in Pinedale. The Commission met for an all-day meeting held in the Pinedale Aquatic Center. The room was standing-room only for the Sublette County business agenda items.

Below is a public notice released by the School District regarding the Commission’s decision.

Public Notice:

School Facilities Commission Meeting
New Pinedale Elementary School Building Project

From Supt. Doris Woodbury:

It took all of us, but yesterday the School Facilities Commission approved the construction of a new 570 student elementary school and the remodel of the existing campus into a secondary campus. The room was packed with Pinedale people. This approval was a hard fought win for our school district. We are also on schedule with utilizing the "Design Build" method of construction. Thanks to all of you and the community for your support and contribution! Getting this passed took everyone of us working together!
_________________________________________________________

Other comments about the meeting
(Special thanks to Dari Quirk for these reporter’s notes):

- There was discussion about the concern of over-building. Historically, some school districts in the State had the ability to build and did. This has created a "differential" between current square footage guidelines and what actual square footage is in some districts. It is expected this differential will be minimized or eliminated as facilities are replace with new ones.

- Before being able to bring a motion to the table with regard to the new elementary school for SCSD#1, the SFC needed to have a SCSD#1 Facilities Plan approved by the Commission that meets statutory requirements. While there is not a current plan incorporating the new elementary school, there is a 2005 plan that does meet statutory requirements, and this plan can be grandfathered in by the Commission. The Commission approved the 2005 facilities plan.

- With the approval of the 2005 facilities plan, the Commission approved the 570-student elementary school for SCSD#1 with the condition that a new SCSD#1 Facilities Plan be in place by the end of March 2009. There was discussion with regard to a target opening of the 2010/11 school year. The Commission ultimately approved the Sublette County request to proceed with the Design-Build approach.

Booksigning Nov. 18
Author Cat Urbigkit held a book signing in Pinedale on Wednesday for her latest book, "Yellowstone Wolves - A Chronicle of the Animal, the People, and the Politics".

The book attempts to set the record straight in defense of Wyoming's native wolf population which has been harmed by the introduction of Canadian wolves into the Yellowstone Ecosystem in the name of wolf recovery. "It's the Endangered Species Act, not the Endangered Species Replacement Act," Urbigkit said.

She has been an advocate to protect Wyoming's native wolf population for over 20 years.

The book is available for $29.95 at the Cowboy Shop in Pinedale, Office Outlets (Pinedale and Big Piney), and Just Imagine in Big Piney.

Working on Winter Snow (posted 11/17/08)
Pinedale Online!
November is the month we start working on building our snowpack for the winter. The mountains have between six inches to a foot of snow right now, according to the area SnoTels. White Pine Ski Area typically opens around Thanksgiving for their snow sport season, weather permitting.

The Upper Green River Valley is still bare, with no sign of snow in the near future weather report. This is giving everyone a short window to finish up any last-minute chores or winterizing in relatively nice weather before Wyoming reminds us that it is past time for winter to descend.
